Name: Bethany Amelyon
Age: 21
Gender: Female
Appearance:
Prisoner or Crow: Hawk
Reason for joining the Hawks: After the war the Crows killed her family.
Weapons: She uses both a longbow and a short bow, and somewhat proficient in the use of the sword, the sword she carries is her fathers. Though only time she has both on her is when she is riding horseback.
Bio: Bethany was four the year that tournament was held. Her father wasn’t a noble or anything of the like but he was known as the best archer in the land, and he was a pretty good with the sword, so he entered the melee and did quite well. Her mother would later tell her that could send a man to the ground with his sword work and follow it up with a roll to gain distance, draw his short bow and send an arrow into his enemy. Her father never spoke of it, because of what happened. All she remembered was her daddy being all handsome and stuff.
He actually made it to the final round, and he faced a noble named Malphas Azezel. Vincent Amelyon was picked to win, and he had every characteristic that Malphas lacked. So he was a great pick for the prince’s second. Many people wonder how the kingdom would look had Vincent won, Malphas was by no means a saint but no man knew the lengths at which he would go to win.
The fight actually started out in Vincent’s favor, Bethany’s mother would later tell her, he had Malphas on the ropes with his sword.
It eventually led to Malphas on the ground, and Vincent rolling away and drawing his bow…that’s when everything changed. Malphas waved his hand around like something was in his eye and he was searching for something, but Bethany’s parents both saw what he did. He threw a small dart at her father. Not that small dart’s where illegal, but what was in that dart was very illegal. Malphas had poisoned the dart. It wasn’t lethal, but it was fast and it would exit his blood stream in a matter of a few minutes, but that’s all Malphas needed. While Vincent lost concentration, Malphas got up and ran at his poisoned opponent. Bethany’s mother closed her eyes, as Malphas hit her husband square in the jaw with his leather glove laced with metal, knocking the bow out of his hand.
Vincent tried to recover and fight back with his sword but Malphas grabbed his right arm, and with all of his strength slammed it at joint onto one of the pillars holding up the arena, breaking it. After that one move was just a beating. Vincent ended up on the floor, while Malphas continually kicked him until he lost consciousness. Malphas had won.
Her father’s screams had caused Bethany to jump over the railing, fall down and run to her father. Malphas turned and saw her coming. “Awww, did I hurt your daddy?” He whispered while allowing Bethany to approach her Dad. Then she started to cry, and Malphas just laughed.
It took her father years to recover from that fight completely; it was half way through the war before he could aim right. And then all he did was teach his daughter how to use a bow, how to steady herself, to hold her breath before firing. And taught her that she should only “kill only when you have too.” When she asked if he would ever kill anyone, he had replied: Only if they threaten you or your Mother.
And that day came, the year Malphas became king. He sent a contingent of Crows to take care of her father. Maphas knew that if Vincent wanted too, he could kill him very easy with one arrow from his longbow. Her mother was killed by while she was in the garden. All but one crow died that day. Her father shot every one of them with one arrow into the eye. The only one who got close enough was an expert tactician named Lucien Wylder. Though she knew him by a different name, Uncle Lucien, he wasn’t her dad’s real brother but he was like a brother to him. They had grown up together. At the sight of his best friend, her father put down his bow. “Lucien…you’ve betrayed the king and I?”
“Vincent, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity, and if I don’t kill you and your family Avan will be killed.” Lucien said drawing his weapon. Her father didn’t draw his sword or pick up his bow. “You already killed my wife, just please don’t kill my daughter.” Vincent said looking at his best friend. “I would gladly trade my life for both her and Avan’s.” Lucien just frowned and slit his former best friends throat silently then looked at Bethany, walked off and got on his horse and started to ride off.
Bethany had picked up her father’s bow and tried to shoot but she was too weak. She left her house a few days later after burying her parents, it took forever. She grabbed her father’s short bow and sword.
She lived off the land for a few years, hunting and fishing. Her father had taught her a lot. It was on a hunting trip that she stumbled upon the camp of the Hawks, when she told one of the Archer that he had strung his bow wrong Melizikiah died laughing, but by the time she finished her story he was in tears.
He offered her a place in the Hawks, she accepted after hearing that they opposed the Crows. Despite her past she has learned to be happy in life, and doesn’t kill unless she has too. She always remember her father’s last words “I would gladly trade my life for both her and Avan.”
Over the years her father’s short bow broke and she had to make herself one, along with her own longbow. His sword is ever at her side though. She has only improved her skills as she has gotten older, vowing to end Malphas’ reign for her mother and father. Elhanan be her guide.
She is loved by all of the Hawk camp for her upbeat attitude, and honor.
