(Sebastian can, does, and will change appearance frequently, however these are his 'natural' features. Ignore the chick.)
Name: Prince Dominic Woodcroft
Fairy tale basis: The Pink (Loosely)
Age:24
Kingdom: Ellaris
Weapons/Skills, if any:Dominic has the power of making wishes. I'm still fleshing out exactly how I'm gonna work this out to prevent god-modding but the power will be in check. Partially by rules I will make up, partially by the fact that Dominic is an idiot.
Bio: The late Queen of Ellaris was a kind and beautiful woman who though she bore her husband many sons, desperately wanted a daughter. Every morning she went out into the garden and prayed that she may bear a daughter often so fervently that her tears dripped down onto the pink carnations below.
Now, the fairies who lived in the garden and never had much like for the big-folk, as they called them, grew offended at her tears and came up with a plan to trick the sorrowful woman. Disguising herself as an angel, the Queen of the Fairies Approached the woman and said to her 'Be at rest, thou shalt have a son with the power of wishing, so that whatsoever in the world he wishes for, that he shall have.'
The Queen wiped the tears from her eyes, 'But dear angel,' She said, 'I have five sons already whom I love dearly. Please, won't you grant me a daughter?'
The Fairy Queen was displeased with the Queen's request but instead of showing her displeasure, took the tear stained carnations and gave them to the Queen. 'If a daughter is what you truly desire, it will be granted to you. From this plant, make strong tea and drink it 'neath the night of the full moon. Do this for the next seven moons, and you will have a son...' The Queen cried out in joy, but the fairy said to her sternly. 'Tell no one what you have seen, for if you do you shall die.'
The Queen agreed, and a few weeks later told the King she was with child. Every full moon she would return to the garden, however, over time the cool night air and the moonlight made her very ill and the night of the seventh moon she was too weak to even leave her bed. The Queen cried and cried and wondered if she would ever have her daughter. Late that night, she called the King to her and begged him to carry her to the garden and make her a tea from the pink carnations that had once been soaked in her tears. But he refused, thinking her mad with fever. In desperation, she told him of the angel (who was of course the fairy queen) and her commands, but no sooner had the words left her mouth than she felt the life draining form her.
The King called a doctor but it was too late. The Queen passed on in the early hours of the morning, shortly after giving birth too her son.
Though the King was a kind man, his heart was broken by the loss of his wife, and he found himself blaming the infant Dominic. Unable to look at the boy and claiming that he did it for the child's own protection, he had the infant locked in a tower and ordered that he should never be allowed out in the daytime lest he be forced to see his face. Though his brothers occasionally visited the youngest prince, he spent most of his time alone. His time in the tower was not unpleasant whatever the boy wished for was granted to him because of his power. Though he rarely had human companions, the tower itself slowly evolved into a child's wonderland where he was the King ruling over his dolls, tin soldiers and the tower rats which he wished into companions.
The King never spoke of his youngest son, and it was only during his wedding feast when he had drunk much fine wine that he told the Queen of the small boy with the extrodinary powers. Excusing herself from the festivities, the Queen went to the tower and found the then four year old Dominic, half wild and terrified amongst a heap of sweets and toys having never seen a woman before. She coaxed him down, saying gently 'I mean you know harm dear Dominic, I only wish that you will be safe.' And being so young, and not knowing that others did not share his power of wishing, Dominic believed for no one else had told him such a thing in all his life.
Though Dominic was never allowed to leave the tower by day, the Queen retrieved him every night after sunset and walked with him through the garden and the King's vast menagerie and it was during this time that she told the small boy of all the terrors of the world. 'Dear Dominic,' She would croon, allowing the boy to lay on her lap and gently stroking his face, 'The world is a terrible place for such a delicate flower as yourself. See how dark the world is? Do you know how many monsters hide in the night?' And so she would go on and on, describing all these things in morbid detail and ending with, 'But don't be afraid, dear child, stay with me forever and mother will protect you. I wish only for your safety.'
In the year following Dominic grew to adore and worship his 'Mummy' believing fully that her world revolved around him as much as his did around her. However, when he was nearing six, his narrow perceptions of the world would widen yet again with the birth of Arianne. At first, Dominic adored the little girl, but as the two grew the Queen became jealous of Dominic and more so scared for what his relationship with Arianne might cause, and so once again she took it upon herself to teach Dominic about the world.'
'Dominic,' She said to him one night on their walk, 'Do you know what this is?'
'Yes mother, that is a Baby. A Baby called Arianne.'
'And do you know what babies grow into when they are done being babies?'
Dominic thought long and hard, 'I suppose they grow into little boys, like me, right Mummy?'
And with a rueful sigh, the Queen shook her head. 'No dear child, I'm afraid not all of them do. For you see Dominic, some babies grow up into sweet little boys like yourself who live in towers and play with dolls and trains and rats and stay safe from the world with their Mothers.... but some babies Dominic.... some babies grow into ladies.'
And Dominic gasped, for he had never heard the word before, but surely it must be terrible. 'A lady Mummy?'
'Yes dear, a lady. And while a lady is the most rare and beautiful thing in the entire world, they are also among the most deadly.'
'More than ogres?' Said the boy. His mother nodded. 'More than witches?' Another nod. 'More than lions and tigers and long grass and sunlight?'
'Oh yes,' She said gravely, 'More deadly than all those things together, for a lady will pull on the strings of your heart, dance with the edges of your imagination. You will want to move closer, Dominic, but that's just the game they play. You will want to think that they're pretty, because they are, or that they are kind for they also appear that way, or that they are funny or sweet or give you feelings you've never had before but then....'
Dominic was shivering now, '... then... then wha? Then What Mummy?'
'... Then Dominic hen they've captured your mind, when they've captured your fancy... they'll cut open your chest with their beautiful fingers... and then...' She lowered her voice, 'they'll eat your heart!’
Dominick screamed, looked at his sister with newfound terror and started to cry. ‘Oh Mummy, Oh mummy I wish…’ Suddenly Dominic was thrown into the hard ground, his face throbbing with a strange sensation he’d never felt before. Pain. The Queen had struck him, but in his naivety Dominic went to the only explanation he could think of. That the feeling, that bad feeling, could only be caused by one thing… the lady. He started to cry, ‘Mummy,’ He whimpered, ‘Mummy protect me!’
She kissed his cheek, ‘I will kitten, I will.’ She crooned, ‘But you must do something for me do you understand?’ The child sniffed, and nodded. ‘From now on, you must only make wishes that I have allowed, for toys and games and sweets but you must never ever make a wish regarding a lady. For if you do I can’t protect you, and you will be all alone, and you will die.’
For the next several years, the Queen manipulated Dominic completely sheltering him from outside influences and consistently reinforcing her authority. The visits with his brothers stopped, and the only two people he ever had contact with were his ‘mother’ who he adored and worshiped, and the lady Arianne who he came to know as both a sacred object to be loved and protected and something to be feared. In the meantime, the Queen grew jealous of her step-sons and devised a plan to turn them into ravens. To Dominic, the Raven curse has always been a matter of protection from the Arianne and he remains ridiculously loyal to the Queen to this day.
OT: I feel like without a personality section I can't really 'flesh out' Dominic and his host of bizarre quirks resulting from his upbringing so I may add on later or just RP it out. I'm also not entirely sure if Dominic would be in the dungeons with the others, or would return willingly to his tower at night. I'll think on it for sure though. XD
Oh! And to whoever ends up playing the Queen, if this doesn't seem characteristic of what you want I can definitely alter. Deranged governess works just as well as evil queen to me, but I do think having the Queen be the one Dominic is so enamored with makes things interesting.
