Sooo.... Sad as it is, I think it may be possible that the only realistic RP on the forum (Prom) is on its last leg and while I had been reluctant to throw a competing game into the ring I think now I may take that chance.
Some of yall might have remembered me talking about a possible Riding Academy game and its from that original idea that the current game, tentatively called The Riders of Bayley Academy, is being born. If your interested, read on! If not.... well... eh.. nothin to see here.
About The Riders of Bayley Academy (TROBA? XD)
-- Bayley Academy is an Elite and internationally recognized riding academy on Hilton Head Island, SC (I'm actually basing Bayley around an existing school...ish). Though the school has facilities and trainers to accommodate other disciplines, its focus is Show Jumping. Bayley has produced several national champions, and even a few Olympic contenders. A joke around the academy, and even around the area horse shows is 'Bayley means Business'. Though some Bayley trainers may take promising (see: rich) beginners, its no backyard riding school.
-- Another rather unique feature of Bayley (especially as an U.S. institution) is a full-time academy program aimed at serious equestrians ages 12-18. For the 30 full time students lucky enough to be accepted into Bayley's full-time program (and luckier still to be able to pay for it) riding at Bayley isn't just an afterschool activity but a complete immersion experience. Students of the full-time program attend classes at near bye Hilton Head Preparatory School, which works closely with Bayley to accommodate the unique needs of these serious equestrians. Bayley students compete both individually, and as members of a School team. During the school year, Bayley riders attend 1-2 shows or other equestrian events a month and top riders may gain coveted positions on Bayley's 'Summer Tour' which frequents shows all over Bayley's competition region.
-- Needless to say this is a competitive environment, so while deep friendships are often formed at Bayley, it does allow for a unique social environment similar too, but distinct from, a normal highschool.
-- For the last few decades, Bayley has been owned and operated by Robin Bayley (who inherited the farm) and her husband Marcus McKinley. However, with Marcus's recent death, their son Ian McKinley has taken over as head trainer (a controversial decision which will make more sense when I start posting bios).
-- Though an excellent rider, Ian McKinley is considered a bit of a black sheep among the equestrian clan McKinley. With a crooked smile and shadowy past, he returns to Bayley from a self-induced exile a few months before his fathers passing. Seeking a redemption of sorts, he begins to make dramatic changes at Bayley.
-- Easily the most contested of Ian's changes is the institution of a program targeted at delinquent or at risk teens that he has handpicked himself out of the juvenile court system. While these 5 'guests' may not compete with or even alongside the full-time Bayley students, they will live and work alongside them. Many Bayley students, and especially their parents are bound to be less than enthused about the program (once they find out that is!)
-- Game focus is simply the growth of the students. Drama, romance, competition, adventure and really any subject is game (well, I mean we are gonna stay realistic soo no unicorns). Players will primarily play as Bayley students or members of Ian's program but trainers, parents of students, or really anyone connected to Bayley is fair game. I'm am very open to alternate plots within a certain framework so if you have any ideas let me know! The setting is pretty solidified, but while I do have ideas for plot proceedings, things are really fairly open. I'd love to some how tie a bit of garbled Hilton's Head history into a sub-plot but I'm thinking things may be complicated enough as is.
Questions? Comments? Suggestions? Thoughts? I worry that I'm complicating things too much...
I'm actually kinda excited about this one. I really really like my charries (I'll be throwing in 5 right off the bat, including Ian) and am looking forward to the horse and competition based themes. That said, I'm not expecting anyone to be an expert on horses to enter the game. Maybe look up a wikipedia article on Show Jumping and pop it into google images and you should be ok. My goal is for this to be a real 'sandbox' game, but with a fairly complex initial box to work in setting wise... if that makes sense.
... yea XD I probably shouldn't be this excited about this but whadeva. I'm currently writing a heck-of-a intro page but I'm not gonna go full force until I think I might have a wee little bit of interest.
Oh! Also!
After thinking about the plot, I think its kinda important to note that we may not be moving forward in a 'one day after another' fashion. Yes, time will be linear but with discussion I may skip us ahead hours, days or even weeks ahead when things get dull to keep us moving with adequate speed down the semester. ^_^ Just be ready when I say something like 'ok, I'm thinking we should skip to the end of the week'. This probably won't be an issue at the begining but if we get further along... yea.
